Reflections on the Christmas Gift & Hobby Show

The pandemic strikes again. Today should have been the first day of this year’s annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show. It would have been its 71st year. Yes, this show, in one form or another, has been held for 70 years. I am proud to have been a part of that tradition, as a local author, for the past decade.

Humorist and Romantic Suspense Author, Suzanne Purewal

Suzanne (4)
I will be appearing at the 69th Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, West Pavilion, booth #306. I will be signing books every day of the show, running from Wednesday, November 7th through Sunday, November 11th.

I am still amazed that I released three books last year – Mis-Matched to Miss Matched, Finally! An Unexpected Love Story, and Manifesting Destiny – the final book in the Destiny trilogy. And I’m thrilled that they have been well-received!

If you enjoyed my dating misadventures on my blog, you’ll love the book, Mis-Matched to Miss Matched. There were many stories I couldn’t post on my blog because I’m keeping my blog PG-rated. This book contains your favorite stories as well as the uncensored ones.

Finally! An Unexpected Love Story is the sequel to Mis-Matched to Miss Matched. It’s a “He Said/She Said” book that chronicles the offbeat and often challenging courtship between co-author, L. E. Hewitt, and me. I guarantee our quirky and sarcastic senses of humor will have you in stitches.

The Destiny trilogy is complete with Manifesting Destiny. The exciting adventure with some of your favorite characters – Sara Taylor, Joe Lazaro, and everyone’s favorite Italian mother, Rose Lazaro, concludes.

In the final novel in the series, Sara Taylor’s world is turned upside down again. While searching for clarity on a self-imposed sabbatical, Sara meets a handsome stranger, Phil Potter. He offers her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for adventure. With nothing left to lose, Sara jumps at the chance.

Through patience and perseverance, Phil tears down the walls Sara has built up. And with his guidance, she has an epiphany about her true calling and how she will make a difference in the world.

Sara realizes she must tie up loose ends, particularly with former lover, Joe Lazaro, before moving on. Joe Lazaro desperately clings to hope of repairing his relationship with Sara. He will do anything to regain her love and trust. However, there is unexpected turmoil concerning the Lazaro family that puts all of their lives in jeopardy.

Will the course of events compel Sara to return to her former life? Or will she ultimately choose the newly inspired path to pursue and achieve her dreams?

Now is the part where I tell you something about me. What should I write that you don’t already know? Oh, I’ve got it! If I had the money, I would spend the rest of my life hiking around National Parks. Some of my favorites are the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Arches, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, and Hawaii Volcanoes. Why? Because of their majesty and grandeur. Each is unique and inspiring. I am amazed at what water and wind have sculpted over time. It’s absolutely fascinating.

I have always appreciated the peace and tranquility of our parks. There’s nothing like the music that nature composes – a babbling brook, the breeze rustling leaves, birds twittering, harmonic sounds as the wind rips through canyons, and bubbling molten lava. Often times, it’s the silence. No cars, no planes, no motors of any kind. Just stillness.

I can hear some of you now, “Oh, geez. You’re a tree hugger.”

Guilty as charged. Although I think I’ve only literally hugged a tree once. Nevertheless, give me a mountain, a canyon, or a lake, and I’m a very happy girl. And that gives me an idea for a blog series and book. Hmm …

In addition to writing, I am the coordinator for the Local Authors’ booth for the Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. So, if you are an Indiana author and would like to participate next year, please let me know. As soon as this year’s show closes, I will be accepting applications for next year’s show.

He has written two books of unconventional poetry, countless short stories, and seven books of the popular Arcadis fantasy series.

Paul has been using that inquisitive nature and penchant for getting questions answered throughout his professional career as a journalist as well as with his two published books.

His first book, “Murder in Wauwatosa: The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher,” was published in 2012 by The History Press. It is a true story of the disappearance of an 8-year-old boy in 1925 and the subsequent investigation into the boy’s murder.

“Wicked Columbus, Indiana,” his second book, published in June 2017 by the same publisher, tells the true tales of some of that city’s more salacious stories.

Paul J. Hoffman was born in Madison, Wisconsin, to Raymond and Sharon (McPhail) Hoffman and was raised in Wauwatosa, a suburb of Milwaukee.

His journalism experience consists of working as a sports writer at the Milwaukee Sentinel; assistant sports editor at Pioneer Press newspapers in the Chicago area; sports editor and news editor in Shelbyville, Indiana; news editor in Columbus, Indiana; special publications editor at the Daily Journal in Franklin, Indiana, and now group special publications editor for AIM Media Indiana, based in Columbus, Indiana.

He is a graduate of Wauwatosa East High School and attended both the University of Wisconsin – Madison and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, graduating from the latter with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications (Radio/TV sequence) and a minor in English.

His creative nature has led to small roles in two motion pictures, as well as producing a bevy of poems and song lyrics.

He is married to Kimberly Sue Hoffman, has three daughters, a son, two stepdaughters and a granddaughter.

Don’t miss your opportunity to meet local author, D.A. Roach! She will be signing and selling her books at the 69th Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show, on Wednesday, November 7th, from 10:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M., at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, West Pavilion, booth #306.

D.A. Roach is a USA Today Bestselling author who has been telling stories since she was a young girl in the suburbs of Chicago. D.A. did not find a love for books until after college.

Her parents were immigrants from Lithuania and found tv and radio easier ways to hear stories, so they did not do much reading or encourage it. But once she finished college and D.A. had free time, she discovered how amazing it was to get lost in a story.

D.A. is a full time mom and wife. When she is not doing domestic things (laundry, bills, etc.) she is writing, reading, creating mixed media art, advocating for a rare disorder, and gardening. Her favorite authors include Rebecca Donovan, Richelle Mead, Larissa Ione, Stephanie Meyer, E.L. James, and Nicole Williams. Reading great works from authors like these has motivated D.A. to write her own stories. She hopes to make positive changes in the world with her art and writing.

9781512737691_COVER.inddAbout the Book, Faithful Sunshine:

Some of us tend to struggle with blind faith. We don’t always see God’s messages or instead we fluff them off as simple coincidences. Some remain trapped in the past, continually punishing themselves or others for mistakes, never learning to forgive. Faithful Sunshine encompasses a variety of emotions and states – bitterness, worry, regret, selfishness, fear, pain, mortality, forgiveness, faith, and love.

Faithful Sunshine is a true account of how the author unexpectedly attempts to help her mother face mortality while juggling her own emotions and unintentionally making peace with the past. Along the way, God’s messages cannot be denied.  He provides strength beyond words. As the story unfolds, God’s Grace shines through. God’s blessings cannot be denied. Faced with humility and reality, the author comes to the realization that blind faith, and a little forgiveness along the way, is all we need.

Asking for Support on Small Business Saturday

small-business-saturday1

It’s Small Business Saturday! So I am asking you to support my business by purchasing my books. They make great gifts since they can be dedicated and personalized!
By purchasing my romantic suspense novels or my poetry book via my website, not only are you helping out a starving author, but you’ll be contributing to help someone in need. This month, I am donating a portion of my book sales’ proceeds to the Save a Warrior program. This unique program helps people struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress. Continue reading

Author, Poet and Humorist, Suzanne Purewal

pg2

I will be appearing at the 67th Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, West Pavilion, booth #303. I will be signing books every day of the show, running from Wednesday, November 9th through Sunday, November 13th.
To honor our active duty military members, Veterans and first responders, I am also donating a portion of this month’s book sales’ proceeds to the Save A Warrior Program.

What can I say about myself that you don’t already know? You know I’m a cancer survivor. I got downsized from my job several years ago. And the trilogy of doom was rounded out with that unexpected divorce.
But I am still standing, despite the efforts of all of those evil doers! Obviously, I was meant to follow a different path.
What path that is, I have no clue. There were a few times when I thought I knew. But time after time, I hit a major construction zone and was sent on yet another freaking detour because the bridge was out.
I hated construction orange before this odyssey began. So imagine how I feel about it when I see it now!
Portions of this journey have left me exhausted. It’s the nature of the beast. Walking uphill, both ways, in a blinding snow storm will do that to you. So will moving your parents from New York to Florida when you live in Indiana.
I initially had grand writing plans for this year. But you all know that life happens while you’re making other plans. And that is exactly what happened to me.
If you missed my posts on my family vacation and moving my parents, then scroll down to read them. You will laugh yourself silly.
If you are short on time, the gist is that my parents are determined to kill me. And because I am a good daughter, well that and because of Catholic guilt, I let them keep trying.
But you already knew that I was a glutton for punishment because I persist with online dating.
But seriously folks, I continue on this strange and unpredictable journey because I can’t wait to see what happens next. And I am hopeful that you will stick around to experience it with me!

Slide1

Last year, I released my latest romantic suspense novel, Challenging Destiny! It is the sequel to Embracing Destiny. The exciting adventure continues with some of your favorite characters – Sara Taylor, Joe Lazaro, and everyone’s favorite Italian mother, Rose Lazaro.
Sara Taylor’s life is finally coming together. She feels at peace. However, Joe stumbles across a clandestine operation. Any leak would put him and his loved ones in danger. Still reeling from his discovery, a secret from Joe’s past rears its ugly head. Then the unthinkable happens – the worlds collide. Will this battle bring Sara and Joe closer together? Or will they become collateral damage in the fallout?

cover_master_1 092810

My first romantic suspense novel, Embracing Destiny, follows Sara Taylor – a woman standing at a crossroad. An unexpected event sets her on a journey. Outside forces intervene, and danger lurks in every shadow.

From_14_to_41_front_cover_092311

My poetry book, From 14 to 41, contains soulful poems that capture the essence of life. A blend of love, loss, whimsical and inspirational pieces, readers are drawn in as the raw emotions leap from the pages.
My blog, the one you are currently reading, Pursuing My Passion, is an outlet for my unique storytelling style, sense of humor and sarcastic wit. The most popular posts are from my “Mis-Matched to Miss Matched” dating series. The entries are all true stories based on my online dating adventures.

In other news, I am the coordinator for the Local Authors’ booth for the Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. So, if you are an Indiana author and would like to participate next year, please let me know. As soon as this year’s show closes, I will be accepting applications for next year’s show.

Click here to purchase my books. I can sign and dedicate them prior to shipping. Right now, you can enjoy free shipping! So, get those Christmas gift lists started!

Madalyn Kinsey was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, in an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She visited them frequently on the family farm near Fishers, Indiana, where ghost hunting, exploring abandoned houses and the nearby creek, searching for UFOs, sleeping in the woods, and other kinds of do-it-yourself fun took place.
Her cousins were never at a loss to cook up fun and adventure, much of it involving investigating the Civil War-era graveyard located only yards behind the family home that was rumored to be haunted.

Her historic fiction books in the Vanessa Mystery Series, consisting of The Ghost of Cheeney Creek, The Mystery of Gatewood Airport, and The Man Who Defied Gravity, are a fond memoir of those visits, as well as the pop culture of the 1960s during which they occurred.

     Reviews:
• Gary Mohre: “What a great book! So heart felt and emotion from the writer.”
• Nancy Lawler: “Just finished it! Great story Lisa! Thanks for inspiring me to cherish every moment with my aging parents! And especially for helping me to appreciate blind faith!”
• Anonymous: “Great story of love and forgiveness. We can all learn from the undying loyalty of the author to her mother and the path of healing that both enjoyed.”
• Brittany Martinez: “I am coming to an end with Lisa’s story. I have to share that this book has truly touched me. I used to be very close with God and in the last handful of years I have drifted a bit. Not because I had less faith, it was because I wasn’t paying attention. For a while now I have been working hard to obtain my close friendship with God. Her story has helped remind me of ways to pay closer attention to the blessings surrounding our everyday life and that God is there at all times. Thank you for sharing your story so everyone can be consumed by reminders of our Father and undoubted faith. You’re an inspiration Lisa Anne Duda!”
• Christy Osborn: “Love this book! It kept me interested throughout the book and I felt like I was right there with them on their journey. Definitely recommend.”
• Lori Sims: “I was blessed to read this book over Christmas and I can say it truly captured me… I could not put it down. It is a must read! I was moved by the events that unfolded and the very personal account of the detailed events that took place so rapidly. Very heart-felt and honest. Thanks Lisa Anne Duda for sharing your story and I know God has a plan for this to bless so many more!”
• David Hoffman: “You wrote a very compelling story. Very good book! Highly recommend it for those who have a strong faith, and those who don’t.”

He will be signing and selling his books at the 67th Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show, on Wednesday, November 9th and Thursday, November 10th, from 3:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, November 11th, from 3:30 P.M. – 9:00 P.M., Saturday, November 12th, from 10:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M., and Sunday, November 13th, from 10:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M., at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, West Pavilion, booth #303.

This is what Lane had to say in his own words.
Author??? If I made my top ten list of things I never thought I’d be it might go something like: U.S. President, doctor, singer, algebra/calculus professor, hair dresser, ballet dancer, rodeo bull rider (crazy!), skyscraper construction guy (crazier!), professional golfer, and for sure, author would have made the list.
Remarkable as it seems (to me anyway), since this is indeed a book and I’m the guy that created it, I guess that qualifies me as an author. I can pretty much guarantee one thing for sure, none of my various English teachers through my school years would have ever predicted I would author anything.
Actually, becoming an author isn’t exactly a huge step up on the “status ladder” anyway. If you think about it, just about anybody that can read and write can become an author just as anybody that can swing a golf club can call themselves a golfer. Now, good, bad, or somewhere in between on the author quality scale? That’s another thing altogether and remains to be seen.

cover3

This is my very first book but hopefully not my last. I’ve got ideas for a few more but I definitely wanted the first to be about golf which has been a huge part of my life as far back as I can remember.
Anyway, here’s a little background on myself just in case anybody really gives a ….! Cares.
I was born in a small southern Minnesota town called Worthington, have lived in seven different states, and now reside in Noblesville, Indiana (suburb of Indianapolis) where I have been for the last thirty years or so.
I’ve played golf for over fifty years and by my best “guesstimate”, played about two hundred different courses. I’ve been involved with the game in one way or another most of my life, both as a recreational endeavor and as a career.
I graduated from Illinois State University in 1973 with a degree in business and a dream to follow in my father’s footsteps and climb the proverbial corporate ladder with some big company. I figured if I was going to work for a company it might as well be a golf company and was fortunate enough to land a job with what I thought was a big one in Chicago, the Ram Golf Corporation. It was a very low paying customer service position but it was a start in an industry that I at least had some interest in.
I soon realized there were not very many rungs on the Ram Golf Corporate ladder. In fact, after being there a year it dawned on me there was only one rung between myself and the guy that owned the company, so even though it was a short climb, it was also one that could take forever or never happen at all!
With little or no opportunity for growth inside, I reluctantly took an outside sales position with Ram in Indiana in 1976 and have been here ever since.
I’ve worked as an independent sales representative for many golf companies selling just about every equipment, apparel, and accessory category related to the game. I’ve been a fifty percent partner in a nine-hole golf course and owned a couple of my own golf related businesses. By the way, I was President of both those companies, so I did, in fact, climb the ladder. One of those businesses had all of four employees including myself and my wife. The other had two including myself and my wife, but why quibble? I made it to the top!
I, like every golfer who reads this book, am a frustrated golfer. I, like most golfers who read this book, am also a golf lover. That makes me a frustrated golf lover. A frustrated golf lover you ask? Aren’t those terms contradictory? You will better understand as you read on. Even though I am indeed a frustrated golfer myself and have created an entire book analyzing the game basically by its frustrating attributes, I absolutely and unconditionally love the game. Frustrating as it can be, it is still THE greatest game the Good Lord ever created!

Rarity

Synopsis
Brogen Mathers can’t deal with teen drama… As an empath, she is constantly bombarded with other people’s energies. Despite coping techniques taught by her psychologist mother, it’s often too much to bear, forcing her to avoid most activities a typical high school junior would enjoy.
Jay Wilken won’t let his past define him… A dead mother and an alcoholic father brought Jay to Stanton, but he doesn’t want pity. His good looks, charisma, and friendly nature quickly win over the whole student body, but he has his eye on one girl…Brogen.
Brogen can’t believe anyone could be so genuinely nice. It has to be an act, right? But when Jay literally saves her from deadly jaws, she has to admit he’s exactly what he appears, and he’s worth risking the potential emotional upheaval.
“Drama” might as well be Becca Grant’s middle name… Another newcomer to Stanton, Becca’s blonde beauty and abundant attitude shoots her straight to the top of the popularity charts—and she believes Jay belongs right there beside her. Accustomed to getting exactly what she wants, she launches a relentless mean-girl campaign to shake up Brogen and claim Jay for her own.
Everything changes with a devastating diagnosis… When Jay learns he has a rare and potentially fatal disorder, he keeps it secret and begins to push Brogen away to spare her future pain—which is exactly the sort of opening Becca is waiting for.
As Jay’s well-meaning deception unravels, Brogen realizes there is much more than her heart at stake… But how far is she willing to go to fight for someone she loves?

Between the Bleeding Willows
Book 1 of the Demon Hunters Series

Synopsis
At eighteen years old, Cassidy has suffered more loss than most…
At the end of her senior year, her boyfriend, Jace Peters, was killed in a car accident, and her grandmother died only weeks later of a heart attack. Emotionally lost, Cassidy desperately searches for an heirloom her boyfriend was wearing in the crash—her mother’s gold ring. But during her search, Cassidy discovers more than her ring.
She finds a gate to the Demon Realm….
A battle is brewing, and Killian—head of the Demon hunters—preps his Clan for the approaching conflict. They’ve been working to secure the gate between his realm and the mortal world. But it’s been nearly impossible since Rya—a voracious demon on a quest to expand her power—devoured the soul of his Clan’s necromancer. Now Rya is possessed with the necromancer’s powers and she may break through the gate at any moment.
Apparently Rya isn’t the only one Killian has to worry about…
When Cassidy accidentally crosses into the Demon Realm, Killian can’t understand how a human girl survived the transition. Now he has to find a way to return her to her own world, or risk her being caught in the crossfire, which is a complication he definitely doesn’t need.
Once back in the Human Realm, Cassidy readies herself for battle. She signs up for Krav Maga classes, where she meets Tyler Romaitis—a handsome, tenacious, humble guy. He seems almost perfect, but nothing is ever that easy.
And as the balance between good and evil shifts, Cassidy finds herself—and her ring—at the heart of the conflict for the survival of mankind.
Tagline: When love takes the form of both hunter and demon, one girl is forced to choose…
